Daniel Chen

Senior Researcher, Center for Community Resilience

Dr. Kuan-Lung Daniel Chen is the Senior Researcher of the Center for Community Resilience, which is currently being incubated within the Sumner M. Redstone Global Center for Prevention and Wellness at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington University. Daniel leads the research efforts for Building Community Resilience (BCR), a national network and learning collaborative that seeks to improve the health and life outcomes of children, families, and communities. Over the past five years, BCR teams across the country have helped build and strengthen the buffers that can prevent negative outcomes associated with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), particularly in the context of adverse community environments (ACEs)—the "Pair of ACEs." He also leads the research efforts for Resilience Catalysts in Public Health (RCPH), for which local health departments operate as chief health strategists to build resilience in their local communities and work with cross-sector partners to address ACEs, suicide, and opioids misuse.

Daniel is a mixed-methods researcher interested in the workforce for health, cross-sector collaborations, and how cross-sector workforce and collaborations can contribute to achieving equity. Much of his work involves metrics development and systems modeling. Prior to joining BCR, he worked as a community coalition builder in Philadelphia, managing the Hep B United Philadelphia coalition and the national Hep B United coalition. Daniel received his Bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley, a Master of Public Health degree from Drexel University, and a Doctor of Public Health degree in Health Policy from the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health.
