Sumner M. Redstone Center for Prevention & Wellness

On January 10th, the Redstone Center testified before the Council of the District of Columbia Committee on Transportation about legislation to increase access to school facilities and fields through shared use agreements. Among other recommendations, the Center proposed that in lieu of creating a task force on shared use - put forth in one of the bills under consideration - a citywide Shared Use Play, Physical Activity in Communities (SUPPAC) be empowered. "A primary goal would be reducing health disparities related to physical inactivity, obesity and other chronic diseases through physical activity," the Center testified. During 2017, Redstone Center staff participated in a citywide working group on shared use, which identified barriers and made recommendations for increasing access to these public spaces for physical activity.
