On October 10th, 2017, Bill Dietz, Chair of the Redstone Center, published a Comment in The Lancet, Double-Duty Solutions for the Double Burden of Malnutrition. The Comment expands upon a paper in the same issue on global trends in rates of overweight, and underweight in children, adolescents and adults. Among the findings, the ‘double-burden’ of underweight and obesity was identified in multiple regions of the world, including the Middle East and North Africa. “The double burden of nutritional disease adds an additional layer of complexity, but raises the possibility that double-duty actions could simultaneously reduce both obesity and undernutrition,” Dietz writes.
