Redstone Center Proposes a Health Equity Framework to the DC Comprehensive Plan

In June 2017, the Redstone Center submitted a proposed amendment to the DC Comprehensive Plan -- a guide for citywide planning, investment and policy decisions that "establishes a vision of the future and includes goals, policies and action items." The Center proposed including an additional Guiding Principle: Achieving Health Equity. Read the full proposed amendment here. Excerpt: "Health underpins the success and vitality of a community, city, or region, because it influences quality of life, civic and academic participation, and economic output – from a child’s attendance at school to an employee’s performance. While the District regularly scores at the top of national rankings for health overall, substantial health disparities exist among DC residents, and the burden of chronic disease is particularly concentrated in certain neighborhoods and Wards. It should be the goal of the District to eliminate health disparities..."
