Bill Dietz Co-Authors American Academy of Pediatrics Policy Statement to Reduce Sugary Drink Consumption in Children and Adolescents

On March 25, 2019, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released a policy statement describing the "grave health threat" of excess consumption of sugary drinks by children and adolescents -- particularly in minority and low-income communities. Bill Dietz, Redstone Center Chair, is a co-author. The statement, jointly issued by the AAP and the American Heart Association, cites the need for specific public policies to help decrease consumption by youth and thereby, sugary drinks' consumption to the development of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and risk of all-cause mortality.
